The city of Tokyo has inherited its urban infastructure from Edo, the seat of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Beneath this hyper-modern city, the street patters of the old Edo can be still discerned. This course is designed to introduce the unchanging elements of this constantly changing city, presenting new ways to discern its geographic and cronological layers.

We were asked to analyze Tokyo and explore the different layers that were prevalent to use and articulate those thoughts. In these essays we are interested in the different dynamics of the city whether it is signs, animation, or culture; we began to understand the city on a deeper level.
