sci arc tokyo 2014

This workshop examined the complex spatial and narrative possibilities found along a continues pathway through the city of Tokyo. Focusing on transitions and juxtapositions within this dense urban environment, this research resulted in a five minute film. As a point of departure, we used the spatial and temporal structures of scroll paintings from the 11th- 14th centuries in China and Japan. The multiple scales, spatial rhythms and narratives coherently illustrated in a single composition provide a clear example of the graphic possibilities within this genre.
